HALF WAY TO HEAVEN
A village fighting for justice.

Germany 2008, 108 min, Spanish with German Subtitles, FSK-rated from 12 years on
directed by Andrea Lammers & Ulrich Miller

A story about passionate search for a self-determined life -  a general story told in a unique way.

“Where do the dead go?”
“To heaven.”
“And where does heaven lie?”
“In the village.”

The sun rises fast here in Guatemala. And the folks of “La Aurora - the Dawn of hope“ prepare the communities first year anniversary. Suddenly children come running. Heavily armed soldiers, men such they never have seen before, having grown up refugee camps. Villagers gather together, surround the patrol, accuse the soldiers of what the army did to their families a dozen years before. Two hours later: The figure of massacres having taken place in this small country rises by one – a figure that laid beyond 650 altogether before. But it is not only the return of the nightmares, it is the beginning of something new: The survivors go to court, filing charges for “state crime“; their first step halfway to heaven.
